In recent months, there has been a noticeable increase in unemployment among delivery workers, taxi drivers, and couriers in China. These job losses are not limited to high-income individuals but also affect those who turned to these sectors after losing jobs elsewhere. The rapid increase in unemployment rates in China, coupled with the low barriers to entry in the delivery and ride-hailing sectors, has made these jobs a lifeline for many. However, with the advent of AI and automation, these opportunities are dwindling, leaving young people without a source of hope. Furthermore, the plight of young people in China is exacerbated by the high cost of living, particularly in first and second-tier cities where housing prices are exorbitant. Losing these last resorts poses an unbearable burden for workers struggling to make ends meet.
